Updating Your Harp Values For Harps Less Than Thirty Years Old:

Appraisals are typically not required for harps under thirty years old. We do however recommend confirming the value of your harp (annually) from your harp manufacturer (typically found on their website).

Coverage For Harps Greater Than Thirty Years Old (as well as harps that are no longer manufactured) require:

  • An appraisal from your harp manufacturer, a credentialed harp maker, appraiser or repair technician noting the condition of the harp and current market value of your harp is required.  Market value is defined as an acceptable price between a willing buyer and willing seller.  An older harp, even if fully restored will not fetch prices comparable to the prices of similar harps being made today. The same might also apply to a harp that is no longer manufactured. For this reason, a written market value and condition appraisal is necessary from a harp tech, appraiser or your maker is necessary.
  • A copy of your bill of sale along with a copy of any receipts of prior restorations is requested (unless waived by underwriting).
  • We do not recommend insuring an older harp for any more than what you would expect to receive if you decided to sell your older harp today since an insurance policy is not intended to create value that exceeds the market value of your harp and you might end up over-insuring your harp paying for insurance coverage that you will never use.

Theft From Unlocked Vehicle Exclusion

If your instrument(s) is in a vehicle, that vehicle must be kept locked at all times. Coverage is provided for theft, pilferage, burglary or robbery only if evidenced by visible signs of forced entry on the exterior of the vehicle or vehicle lock(s).

Terrorism Coverage

Our policy extends coverage for terrorism losses covered by the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) at no additional charge.

Electronic Equipment

Electronic Equipment and Software may be added at a cost of $.65/$100 of insured value. Software includes audio, VST, VSTi plugins and synch licenses using virtual or hardware dongles. This charge is in addition to the total premium for your musical instrument schedule and accessories.

Rental Reimbursement Coverage

Included at no additional charge for covered members of the International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen in Good Standing! Provides coverage up to $225 USD per month for up to 12 months subject to timely repair of a covered loss on a damaged instrument IF you do not have an equivalent idle instrument.

Does My Homeowners Policy Cover My Harps?

  • Most homeowner’s policies will cover harps up to a certain limit.   This limit is usually less than $2,000 USD total.  If you have an instrument valued more than this amount, you should consider Harp Insurance.
  • Most homeowner’s policies do not respond at claim time if an instrument is used being used in a paid performance.  That is considered business use and if a loss happens while being paid for a performance, your homeowner’s policy may not pay.  Harp Insurance with Anderson Group covers casual, professional and business use of your Harps.
  • Did you realize your homeowner’s policy does NOT cover flood damage?  Unless you have a separate flood policy covering personal property, there is no coverage for your harps.  Harp Insurance covers flood damage to listed instruments!
  • Did you know your homeowner’s policy does NOT typically cover earthquake Damage let alone earthquake damage to harps?
  • Harp Insurance is structured to cover perils not normally covered on a homeowner’s policy, such as falling, cracking, etc. Every claim is reviewed by a company adjuster to confirm coverage; however, a homeowner’s policy will not pay for a harp breakage due to bumping, falling, dropping etc!  There are no listed perils like these listed on a homeowners policy!  (A complete copy of the Anderson Group Harp Policy may be seen by clicking here).
  • A harp Insurance policy provides a deductible as low as $250 USD deductible, whereas your homeowner’s policy may have a deductible upwards of $1,000 USD or more!
  • Your harp Insurance policy will provide "Stated Value" coverage for your instrument, while your home policy may only provide Actual Cash Value (Replacement Cost minus Depreciation.  Typically harps that are in top condition generally have little to no depreciation, so this is a very big question to ask your agent!  You wouldn’t want to find yourself in a predicament!
  • Does the total value of your harps get deducted from the Personal Property (Coverage C) portion of your policy?  If so, please remember that coverage is there to replace your personal property from linens to appliances!  Adding harps under that coverage may take away much needed coverage.
